Care of the Spiderwort (Tradescantia)
The Spiderwort (Tradescantia) is an easy-care houseplant that requires little attention. This strong and versatile plant thrives in a bright room with plenty of indirect sunlight. Place it near a window, but avoid harsh midday sun.
Water the plant about once a week and allow the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. This helps prevent the roots from staying too wet. During the growing season, you can feed your Tradescantia once a month with houseplant fertilizer to encourage healthy growth and lush foliage.
When well cared for, the Tradescantia will reward you with small purple flowers hidden among its leaves. Each flower has three petals and blooms for just one day — but under the right conditions, new flowers will appear regularly.
The long trailing stems of the Spiderwort hang gracefully over the edge of the pot, making it perfect as a hanging plant or decorative accent on a shelf or cabinet.
