Gifting a plant
Choosing the perfect plant as a gift requires attention to the recipient's style and plant care skills. This guide offers tips for selecting an appropriate plant and practical care instructions to include on the gift card.
Giving a Plant as a Gift? Useful Tips & Plant Care!
Gifting a houseplant is a fantastic idea. A beautiful, green plant brings joy to almost anyone and instantly adds atmosphere and health to a home. However, not all plants are the same. Want to make sure your green gift is a perfect hit and stays alive for a long time? Keep these three important pillars in mind: interior style, plant care, and budget.
1. Interior Style: Which Plant Fits the Home?
Plants come in all shapes and sizes. The right plant enhances the atmosphere of a room. Always match your choice to the recipient's living style:
- Modern and Sleek Interior: Choose plants with striking, graphic shapes or dark leaves, such as the Alocasia 'Polly'.
- Bright and Scandinavian Interior: A fresh, bright green plant with fine leaves, like the Areca Palm, fits perfectly here.
- Traditional or Country Interior: Think of full, classic plants that instantly radiate warmth and coziness.
2. Plant Care: Match the Plant to Their Green Thumb
Nothing is more unfortunate than a gift that withers after two weeks. Ask yourself beforehand how much experience or time the recipient has for plant care:
- The Beginner: Does the recipient have little experience or a busy life? Choose easy houseplants that can take a beating. A succulent, a cactus, or the iron-strong Jade Plant are ideal choices.
- The Plant Expert: Looking for something for a true plant lover? Then you can go all out with a unique or rarer species that requires a bit more challenge and specific care.
- My Golden Tip: Always include a handwritten card with short care instructions!
3. The Budget: Grand Gestures or a Small Thank You
In my webshop, you can buy plants for every budget. The price of a plant often depends on its rarity, growth rate, and pot size:
- Small Budget: Choose a charming, smaller houseplant in a nice pot or a trendy cutting. The Jade Plant is an affordable and sustainable option.
- Larger Budget: Go big with an impressive eye-catcher. Think of a large Zamioculcas, a colorful Calathea, or make a statement and buy a large houseplant the size of a small tree.
Handy Care Tips for the Most Popular Gift Plants
To give your gift a head start, here are the basic rules for caring for the plants in this article. You can copy these tips directly onto the gift card!
Alocasia 'Polly' (Elephant Ear) – For the Style-Conscious Lover
- Light: Place this plant in a bright spot, but avoid direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn.
- Water: Keep the soil constantly lightly moist. Water regularly in small amounts rather than a large splash at once.
Areca Palm – The Fresh Mood Maker
- Light: Loves plenty of indirect light. Too much shade slows down growth.
- Water: The Areca Palm drinks relatively much. Make sure the root ball never dries out completely, but prevent the roots from sitting in a layer of water.
Jade Plant (Crassula ovata) – The Ultimate Starter Plant
- Light: Can perfectly stand in full sun, for example, cozy on the windowsill.
- Water: Requires very little water. Let the potting soil dry out completely between waterings. In winter, watering once a month is often enough.
Zamioculcas (ZZ Plant) & Calathea – Beautiful Eye-Catchers
- Zamioculcas: One of the toughest plants available. Does well in both bright and dark spots and consumes very little water.
- Calathea: Known for its moving leaves. This plant requires a shady spot (no direct sunlight) and high humidity. Ideal for people who like to be actively involved with their plants.
