CARE of Bromelia:
In the wild, Bromelia grows in the tropical rainforests of South America. Here they are mainly kept as a houseplant, best in a light warm place (+20°C) with high humidity such as kitchens or bathrooms. Avoid direct sunlight.
Form long narrow stiff leaves and flower with colored bracts. They bloom all summer long.
After flowering, the plant dies but does make new shoots. The potting soil should normally be moist but well permeable and certainly not wet. Make sure there is water in the tube, but not in winter when the plant is cooler (15°C)
Nice to know: In the wild, the Bromeliad feeds on rainwater, fallen leaves and bird droppings. The plant collects all these things in the rosette, which creates a reservoir full of nutrients. Not only the Bromeliad feeds on this, animals also use this water storage. Birds, monkeys, frogs and other insects like to take a sip from it. The plant is especially indispensable for the poison frog. They use the water in the tube of the plant to deposit their frogspawn and thus reproduce.
