Hydrangea is a hardy deciduous shrub that feels at home in the morning or evening sun and prefers a bit of shade for the rest of the day. Too much sun can lead to leaf burn and rapid discoloration of the flowers. Hydrangeas need quite a lot of water. Removing spent flowers stimulates the production of new buds.
