CARE of French Lavender (Lavandula stoechas):
Lavender stoechas is a species that is often used for flower boxes because of its distinctive inflorescence. These have a striking crest at the top of the typical lavender-like bloom, hence the name French Lavender. The major disadvantage of this species is that it is not hardy, but you can overwinter it by properly protecting the plant or taking it indoors.
This plant blooms earlier in the year than the 'real' lavender and blooms longer. This lavender brightens up your garden from early spring to late summer, with flowers in the shape of a large purple crest. The leaves of French lavender are narrow and silvery green in color, with a dark lower edge. The plant can grow to about 60 centimeters.
A special feature of the French Lavender is that the leaves have a pine scent when you bruise them. The wonderful scent attracts bees and butterflies, creating a pleasant buzz in your garden.
