CARE of Gardenia:
This plant attracts attention with its beautiful dark green leaves and its creamy white, fragrant (vanilla scent), double flowers.
- Also known as the “plant of secret love”
Not full sun, but lots of light. Filtered sunlight Warm and moist: After flowering, the plant goes into a rest period. Then place the plant in a cooler place, but maintain a temperature between 16-18°C. When the flower buds are formed, a constant temperature (17°C) and high humidity are necessary to prevent bud loss. Sensitive to temperature changes. Can cause bud loss. In summer the plant can also be placed outside. In winter, preferably a cooler location: 12-16°C
Water: Keep the potting soil moist, especially during the growing period, but avoid too much water and 'wet feet'. Never let the potting soil dry out. Only use rainwater or low-lime water at room temperature. Mist the leaves (not the flowers) regularly for optimal humidity.
Tip: Gardenia is allergic to lime. When repotting, use an acidic, humus-rich soil (heather soil). Repot every 3-4 years in the spring. Soil that is too calcareous gives Gardenia yellowed leaves. If the plant becomes too large, you can prune it back, best done in March.
