CARE of Calathea flamestar:
The leaves have exuberant patterns in beautiful colors. They look like they've been painted! In addition, no leaf is the same.
With its maximum height of 60 centimetres, it is also a houseplant that can be placed practically anywhere
Humidity: About the most important thing in the care of the Calathea is to ensure a high humidity. Why? In the natural habitat, the humidity is around 90%. The air here is much drier. This problem is quite easy to avoid. You have to spray the leaves every day with the plant sprayer. Set the plant sprayer to mist mode and mist the leaves until they are completely wet. This can be done with tap water, but this often leaves white spots on the leaves. This is the lime that remains after the water has evaporated. You can easily wipe this off again.
Others choose to put the Calathea in the bathroom.
Location: The Calathea Flamestar is a plant that needs a lot of light to keep the leaves beautiful. That is why choosing a location is so important. Place her in a spot with plenty of daylight, but never where direct sunlight can fall on the leaves.
Direct sunlight causes leaf burn in the form of black spots on the leaves.
Watering: There is something that unfortunately often goes wrong for this beautiful plant. Too much water is harmful, but so is too little:
Too much water. A prolonged period of too much water will result in soggy soil. The roots are not used to this and will rot. Rotting roots can no longer do their job: absorb nutrients and transport them to the leaves. The consequence? Yellow spots or even completely yellow leaves.
Too little water. The Calathea Flamestar is used to a constantly humid environment. When it dries out, it manifests itself in limp, curling leaves.
The solution is simple: stick a finger in the potting soil. Does soil stick to it? Then the soil is still too soggy and you wait a while before watering. When hardly any soil sticks to it, it's time to water.
