CARE Lipstick plant (Aeschynanthus):
It is a very decorative and strong species with large, green, shiny leaves. At the ends of the tendrils the tubular red flowers form calyxes from which the flower buds appear. After flowering, prune the plant back a bit to keep it compact.
Keep the potting soil moist during flowering and use lime-free water, so no tap water. Fertilize regularly. Due to the thick fleshy leaves, the plant tolerates dry air in our living rooms, but will appreciate a higher humidity more. Prefers a warm (20°C), bright spot, does not tolerate direct sunlight.
Allowing the plant to hibernate for one month in a slightly cooler place (15°C) promotes flowering in summer. Give less water, let the soil dry between 2 waterings. Too cold in winter, drafts, too dry air, too little moisture can cause leaf loss. Move the plant as little as possible during flowering.
