CARE of Jerusalem Cherry (Solanum):

It is a romantic shrub that appeals to the imagination because it resembles a mini apple tree. The star-shaped white flowers first grow between the dark green wavy leaves. When pollinated they become green berries that turn brighter orange and remain on the plant. These berries are poisonous. Therefore, only use this plant as an ornamental plant and keep it out of the reach of young children and pets.

It is a houseplant that brings color in the fall and lasts until the start of the new year.

Location

In order for the orange 'apples' to bloom properly and form, the orange tree needs a lot of light. So keep it as light as possible, but let it gradually get used to full sun. It does well at room temperature, but likes to be a bit cooler in winter, because that stimulates its flower formation. A temperature between 10 and 15 degrees is ideal. After the frost season you can also put it outside, but bring it back inside in time, because it is not winter hardy.

Watering

Its water requirement is not very great, but it does want regular water, so that the root ball always remains just moist. So give small amounts of water often, about once every 2 to 3 days. In winter, when it is cooler, watering once a week is usually sufficient. During spring to early autumn, provide some plant food every 2 weeks while watering.

When the humidity in the house is low, spray the plant every week with lime-free water or put it outside on a warm day during a rain shower, so that its leaves remain nice and green and dust-free.

Flowering and berries

The fruits, in contrast to the rather puny flowers, give the plant its ornamental value and they remain on the plant for a nice long time. If the 'apples' are no longer beautiful, you can sow the seeds contained in the 'apples' in the spring for new, young specimens of your plant.
