Tips: To care for the flowers or bouquets.

Can good care of cut flowers extend their shelf life? Because I want you to enjoy our flowers or bouquets for as long as possible, I will give you some tips for caring for your flowers.

Place the flowers in water as quickly as possible

Make sure your bouquet is not left without water for too long. Cut flowers can survive without water for a maximum of 30 to 40 minutes. Do you have a long car journey ahead? Then place your bouquet in a bucket of water.

Let the bouquet get used to the temperature

This only applies if it is very cold outside. In such a case, the temperature inside will be a lot warmer than outside. It is best to allow the bouquet to acclimatize there, which means that you gradually allow the flowers to get used to the warm temperature. The best way to do this is to first place the bouquet in the garage (or a similar area). The temperature in these types of rooms is often higher than the outside temperature, but lower than the inside temperature. The 'intermediate phase' allows you to enjoy your flowers for longer!

The packaging

I do my best to provide the bouquets with as much protection as possible for packing. However, the intention is to remove the packaging immediately as soon as it goes into the vase. The packaging retains heat and moisture. This will prevent fungal infections from developing. So always remove the packaging so that you can enjoy your beautiful flowers for longer.

Choose the right vase

A field bouquet with longer stems belongs in a completely different vase than a tied bouquet. The emphasis is always on giving the flowers space to prevent fungal infections.

Clean vase

To give your bouquet a good start, it is important to put a clean vase. Nobody likes to live in a dirty house. If the vase is still dirty, clean it first.

But how much water do I give my bouquet

First and foremost, always make sure that no leaves come into contact with the water. Then fill the vase 1/3 full with clean lukewarm water. If they get too cold water, they will be shocked, just like us. Oh yes, but be careful with tulips or gerberas: they droop easily if they get too much water. The tulips like cold and little water (only the feet are sufficient, but be careful, because they can sometimes drink a lot) and they do not need cut flower food.

With every bouquet you will receive a bag of cut flower food from us, except for the tulips. You add this to the water before the bouquet can be placed in the water. This will further promote a longer shelf life.

Additionally, keep in mind that flowers are living objects. One flower may have more than another. I cannot offer the 7-day freshness guarantee that they use in supermarkets and garden centers for my products.

What I can offer is a “fresh and honest guarantee”. Our flowers have been treated with love and given time to grow and bloom until they can be sold.

Choose the right place for your bouquet

Have you followed the tips above? Then now it's time to give your bouquet in a beautiful place! Choose a spot with indirect sunlight, no one likes to sit in the dark. Avoid heat sources, such as a fireplace or heater. Also make sure the flowers are placed far away from a fruit bowl. Fruits release ethylene gases that cause the flowers to wilt more quickly. They also don't like drafts. It is therefore best not to place them in an airflow in your home.

Maintenance of your bouquet

It is best to remove wilted or dead flowers. These also give off gases. This makes it easier to remove them from the bouquet. This way the other flowers retain their value.

Leave elastic or string around the bouquet

I get this question regularly in my flower shop. The answer to this is: everything depends on the vase in which the flowers are placed. It does not matter much for the flowers to bloom whether the flowers are placed in the vase with or without elastic or rope. Sometimes the composition of a bouquet means that it is best to leave the elastic around it. For example, in a modern bouquet, the bouquet falls apart when the elastic is removed in a vase. It would be a shame!

Bouquet without elastic or string falls looser. Whether it is more beautiful without depends on the vase.

Enjoy!

Whether they are on the sideboard or on your desk... Above all, enjoy your flowers and the beauty that nature has to offer. Enjoy the warm appearance and scent of your bouquet. By taking good care of the bouquet, you can enjoy it longer!
